The City of Richmond and Concord Pacific Announce the Commencement of Construction on a New Richmond Arts Facility
THE CITY OF RICHMOND AND CONCORD PACIFIC ANNOUNCE THE COMMENCEMENT OF CONSTRUCTION ON A NEW RICHMOND ARTS FACILITY
ARTS FACILITY IS PART OF A $50M COMMUNITY AMENITY PACKAGE WITH TAX AND CARBON BENEFITS FOR CITY RESIDENTS
Peter Webb, Sr Vice-President of Development at Concord Pacific announced, “We are pleased to be here with Mayor Brodie to announce the construction commencement for the final phase of the sustainable Concord Gardens community. The Picasso phase will include a $9M Arts Facility for the City. The Arts Facility investment consists of the build out of a 12,850 sf, $4.5M dollar shell and a $4.5M dollar investment in fit out for the not-for-profit operator as part of our community amenity contribution to the development. We are in the final stages of coordination with the operator and will be announcing more details this spring.” Webb continues, “The community, now more than half complete, also includes a significant contribution towards the City’s $29M dollar investment into the Capstan SkyTrain station. As well, Richmond residents benefited from the recent delivery of the $13M Ketcheson Park. Factoring in the price of land, our infrastructure contribution to the City of Richmond totals well over $50M.”
Arts community in Richmond benefits from development. Public benefit reduces burden on taxpayers.
“This is another excellent example of how the City of Richmond works with developers and partners to build strong communities,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “This new arts facility will further strengthen our already vibrant Richmond arts community and, along with the completion of a new early childhood development hub and Canada Line station, make Concord Gardens and Capstan Village accessible and exciting residential neighbourhoods”
Weekday ridership on the Canada Line now averages 150,000 rides per day
“The Canada Line is an integral part of our transit system carrying over 150,000 trips on an average weekday. As the neighbourhoods in Richmond welcome more residents, our ridership continues to grow. We are excited to be working closely with the City of Richmond to advance our design work for the Capstan Station. With service increases coming in 2020 and an innovative approach to delivering the new Capstan Station, Canada Line will continue to deliver excellent service to our customers, now and into the future,” commented Aliya Mohamed, Director of Public Affairs for TransLink.
